Homegrown Food

Zucchini bread (with cream cheese on top), made from zucchini straight from the garden.

A "lemon boy" tomato, added to a yummy summer salad.

You're such a hippie! ;)

I wish I were more of a hippie. I want a composter and I want a doula.

Doulas are standard in Davis. Okay, not standard, but very common and accessible. I have at least 3 neighbors that are volunteer doulas. I wish I could have had another baby while living here.

Wow. The cheapest one I can find around here is $400. I just know if I can justify that amount of money.

$400 for what? Postpartum help or just being there during labor and delivery? The volunteers are just there during L&D, but I've know lots of friends who were able to afford them for postpartum care too.

Generally 2 visits beforehand, being there during birth, and 1 visit afterward, and usually they charge for gas too. I really don't care about the visits before and after.

I want a composter, too, but I'm not enough of a people person to want a doula. Having Mom there when Elizabeth was born helped, though.

Okay so maybe I am a little ignorant and I will probably feel stupid for asking it later but what is doula?

Wow, I can't believe you guys are eating out of your garden already! All we have yet is spinach and lettuce.

I'll take the epiderral over the doula any day, but I would like a composter!

Jamie, here's a good article about doulas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doula

Don't feel stupid or ignorant, I definitely didn't know what one was before having kids, and probably not even before moving to Davis.

Jamie,

I definitely did not know what a doula was until a couple of years after I had my first kid - and didn't want one until very recently.

Who needs a duola when you have "Mr Support" right here.
You ask if you can sneak out to get a hamburger during the first birth, and you're branded for life...simply not fair. I have needs too...:).

Chad, the real talent comes in getting back into the hospital after they've locked down all the entrances for the night.

How many doulas catch the puke in the delivery room? How many hubbys?n 'Nuff said.
