Colin C.

Well, I did it. I gave my firstborn a trendy name. We got to his open house today to discover that there are two Colins in his class! Just as I was Katie J. in kindergarten, he is Colin C. The really sad thing about it is there are only two Chinese classes in his grade level so if they both continue at this school, their chances of being in the same class are always 50/50.

Now for the really weird part - we didn't meet the other Colin, but according to the teacher, it is a girl! Same spelling and everything. Have you ever? I sure hope it is just a mix-up with the wrong box getting checked somewhere.

Glad you made it to open house! What day next week does Colin start? Maybe you can have the baby tonight and be all set by Monday!

HA! I wish!
He starts on Monday. We talked to his teacher about "what-if" I went into labor that day. She said it would be okay if he started another day.

Oh, dear...it is really trendy for girls to take over all the boy names these days...could be! James suggests he pick a Chinese name to go by.

That's great that he can start another day. I really hope it all works out for you.

His teacher actually said they will all get Chinese names for class so it won't be a big deal. I hope Colin isn't one of those names being taken over.....I don't want it to be like Morgan (or Ashley) 50 years from now - "WHAT, HIS name is Colin?"

Maybe I'm just in a mood, but I suggest taking the initiative and finding Colin a Chinese name before he starts. That way he can introduce himself as whatever he wants to be, and it'll probably stick. You can blame it on him being enthusiastic for the class or whatever. That way he'll get a name he knows he'll like (how often do you get to pick your own name, c'mon!) instead of taking a chance on getting a name that means something embarrasing. Make sure you look for all of the meanings of the name, and if you're really into it, check for synonyms in Chinese and the cultural meanings for the name. Like we think monkeys are silly, but they think they are wise.

That is going to be so cool! A Chinese class! I'm jealous of him! I can't believe there's another Colin- & it's a girl?!? a lil' bizarre! Good luck with all of that!

Last night I was reading some parenting book and it talked about a baby girl named "Austen"!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I have HEARD of a girl named Nolan, but never saw it yet. If that ever happened to him I would be so mad... I think I would have to have a word with her mom about not being so cruel to her child AND mine by calling her child a distinctively boys name! Boys can not get away with stealing girls names, so I do not think it is fair that all the girls take the boys names!

You had to be Katie J. Colin will have to be "boy Colin"!

I doubt I will ever see a girl Yonas, but Yomane was percieved a femeinine in the states, so I am glad he prefers Silas. Which hopefully will stay a boy name as well. But you also never know when a name will get trendy. Nolan continues to get more popular. Callie is actually pretty popular when you look it up seperately. Although Callie is like 150 of the SSA list, Kali, Cally, Kallie, and all sorts of other spellings are on there too, so when you add it up it is pretty common. But Lettie and Jovie... I don't plan on seeing those anytime soon!

Now, the other problem you may have is Gabriel was born around Desperate Housewives time, so he may go to school with a Gabrielle. But at least he goes by Gabe and if they shorten the girls name it will be Gabby!

Ok, that was long.

PS... but Rae is a cute name for a girl ;)! Hahaha... after I wrote all that Levi said I should have just wrote "yeah Ashley", but when you see your spelling you KNOW it is a girl!

When I told Levi about the post he said there was a lot of that going on at his school last night... a teacher saying, "Oh, you are Brandon's mom, where is he?" Nope, it is a she.

Heh, yeah, I just realized I have a daughter named Rae. LOL. Whenever I set stuff up on the phone (like a new doctor or speech or something) they ask at least three times whether it's a male or female. And when I introduce Rae to people they say "how do you spell that?" but when I say "R-A-E" they always say, "oh, that makes sense and it's cute". Who knows if they are lying, but I don't really care. I still don't think it's as bad as Colin or Austen. And besides, there aren't any boys named Ray these days. THAT is why it's okay. :)

I just noticed some of the other names on the bins...Riddek? Willow? Are you freakin' kidding me? Doesn't matter than we have a kid named Blaise, at least he won't be in a public school setting. :)

Chronicles of Riddek? Is Addison's middle name Wesley? HUR HUR HURRRR!

Yeah, I got nothin'.

Yeah, I was noticing some of the other names on the bins. Gotta love Riddek. There is also a Dunnighan, and a Morrighan. Lovely.

Goodness, gracious, Katie, what kind of parents are in your area?!

Of course Elizabeth is in nursery with "Bubba" and "Kiki" so I guess there's plenty to be said about our area!
